Lesson aims:
- Investigate photographic media, techniques and technology by being introduced to vignetting – making connections to own personal ideas
- Use photographic media, techniques and technology safely by making final photogram – for presentation on mounted sheets – using vignetting techniques to refine ideas
- Know about the characteristics and properties of photographic materials and understand own use of photographic media, techniques and technology by recording vignetting techniques, processes and timings in sketchbooks in evaluative plenary
Starter 10mins: Group exhibition on past
prints – discussing groups previous understanding and learning.
promoting inclusion by shwocasing and
celebrating groups work
TASK 1 5mins:
Teacher to display examples of vignette
and leave on board for learners to discuss as a group the techniques and
process used.
TASK 2 10mins:
Learners to take learning into
recording quick ideas on A5 compositional sheets – to be placed in sketchbooks
later.
Learners to cut 1 simple vignette - based on ideas, inspiration from board and
tracings from previous experiments and 14day photo challenge to create 3 to 4
vignette prints that uses all of the skills they have learnt over the
cameraless elements of first 3 weeks of unit
EXTENSION:Learners
coherent use of materials will be judged on effectiveness of vignette
Learners
innovative use of materials will be judge on skillful, personal, effective
vignettes that clearly answers the brief
To discuss progress and each individual to set targets for second part of lesson and feed in to HOMEWORK task
HOMEWORK: 2hours for 8th Feb
Complete a review of darkroom practice to investigate uses of
techniques, showing understanding of photographic terms, know about the
characteristics and properties of photographic materials and own uses, analysis
of this for high marks and evaluating it for top marks
LESSON:2
STARTER
Teacher to discuss health and
safety in the darkroom
Learners to discover uses of
vignette in darkroom practice task that use
photographic media, techniques and technology safely; integrating inspiration and ideas developed from group
discussion and targets set in previous lessons
Learners to evaluate progress
half way through task, discuss best prints, best practice in process and how to
refine further
Learners to continue to discover
uses of vignettes, refining ideas and developing skills further to complete 3
professionally printed outcomes that use photographic
media, techniques and technology safely
EXTENSION:
Leaners to use vignettes and press printing combined
to create multi layered prints that answer a brief but show distinction
criteria in using
innovatively, a comprehensive range of photographic media, techniques and
technology safety
TASK: 2 5mins
Clean up – making sure darkroom is left as
a safe and clean environment
Plenary 10mins:
To evaluate progress. Have we achieved what we individually set out
to do? Have we extended our learning?
Have we discovered further and refined more than we expected? To be recorded
for use in HOMEWORK
