UNIT 45 Charity Poster: WK:8 Final developments and Design Progression

WEEKS AIMS:
  • To create a personal, original and innovative A3 sized (minimum) poster that answers the brief and criteria.
  • To record in your sketchbooks development of poster and how ideas change visually and conceptually. 
  • To annotate stage by stage development reviewing how your own ideas, and any peer feedback you have received, has influenced and changed your visual development.

LESSON ONE: MONDAY
STARTER: 10mins
Discuss as a group the brief, what do we need to do to achieve a distinction?

MAIN TASK: 45mins
Complete ideas development and experiments for your poster.
(EXTENSION TASKS: Group discussion on what extension tasks could we do).

PLENARY: 10mins
Recap progression, where am I? Where am I going? what am I going to do between today and tomorrow to get there?

LESSON TWO: TUESDAY
STARTER: 10mins
Diagnostic assessment of needs, group to recap on important criteria of the brief.

MAIN TASK: 45mins
Complete ideas development and experiments for your poster. 

EXTENSION TASKS: consider ideas towards creating one of the extension tasks we spoke about. They are:  
  1. CREATE A BANNER, 
  2. CREATE A FLYER, 
  3. EMAIL A CHARITY, 
  4. CREATE A SERIES OF BANNERS.
PLENARY: 10mins
Recap progression, where am I? on a scale of 1 to 10?  What can I do to move forward?

LESSON THREE/FOUR: WEDNESDAY
STARTER: 10mins
Peer assessment of ideas.  Discuss the word 'innovative' and then peer assess each others final ideas. Record on the sheet given your peers ideas, how do they meet the brief?. Then record targets based on your peers feedback.  These will be reviewed during and at the end of the lesson.

MAIN TASK: 40mins
Complete ideas development and experiments for your poster and start creation of your final poster. Teacher will discuss work in 1 to 1 tutorials and discuss have you met your sketchbook targets you set last week and this week.

EXTENSION TASKS: consider ideas towards creating one of the extension tasks we spoke about.




PLENARY: 15mins
Recap peer targets on your ideas, have you met them?  check your targets and assess if you have, what you need to do further to meet these targets?

The second part of the lesson will use the targets set and peer feedback given to set individual targets

UNIT 45 Charity Poster: WK:7 Ideas generation

LESSON:3 (DOUBLE LESSON)


LESSON AIMS:
To continue experimenting with materials and techniques that answer the brief
  • ' You then follow a graphics, textiles, fine art or photography pathway to create an original logo and graphic images to be incorporated into a visually exciting final A3 sized poster that is eye catching, includes relevant typography and clearly communicates the ideas, themes or messages of your charity.' 
To record those experiments in our sketchbooks, evaluating their effectiveness to answer D1

  • ' apply investigations to development and presentation of work, evaluating techniques and processes to produce innovative graphic image outcomes'

MAIN TASK:
Continue to use a range of techniques over at least 4 pages, inspired by your research to create original ideas.

UNIT 45 Charity Poster: WK:5 Logos and ideas

LESSON AIMS:
To design a charity logo, inspired by the work of others and to connect your logo to research completed into Charity Posters and mood boards
To use gridded paper to design final logo steps
To use Adobe Illustrator to create final vectored logo, to be used at a later date

LESSON 1

To complete your designs you must create 3 logos on gridded paper and choose one to progress into a final logo.

LESSON 2

Use Adobe photoshop to clean up your image and then use Adobe Illustrator to complete your final logo. Using the live trace (tutorial on moodle) you can trace and expand your logo, then save it and make colour ways in photoshop using hue and saturation. 

HOMEWORK: This is your first 'outcome' So make sure you review it comparing and contrasting it to the research you have done into charity posters and the the work of others.

LESSON 3 / 4
Initial ideas sheets.  You can now progress your ideas onto initial ideas sheets.  Using the research you have conducted into Charity posters you can now start thinking about what YOU want to do. Inspiration for these ideas are on moodle.


LESSON 5
Initial ideas drawings will be progressed and reviewed by HXV, with class discussion on those ideas and artists to research.
LESSON 6
RESEARCH TASK:  Use this lesson to progress your research into the work of others.  Using the feedback you have received start considering the artist you wish to research to help inspire your ideas.

This research MUST be over 2 A3 pages and be detailed, with connections to your intensions, comparing and contrasting their work to your ideas.

This research needs to be handed in to NDV on the Wednesday after half term.  A draft version for proof reading can be given to NDV on the Wednesday before half term.

The aims of this week:
  • To research more examples of graphic image making, including Art Nouveau, Russian Political Posters and Contemporary Photoshop manipulation
  • To respond to research by experimenting with the materials and techniques employed in these examples of graphic image making
  • To record findings in visual and informative A3 sketchbook pages that compares and evaluates the work of others to own examples
