What is a focal point?
A central point of attention or interest
Why have a focal point?
It directs attention to what's most important
10 mins Starter: Group discussion about the 2 posters above
- Where is the focal point in each poster? How do the focal points draw your attention?
- What is the most important text? How do you know?
- What formal elements have been used in each poster to form the composition? Imagery, colour, tone?
10 mins Task 1: Your focal point
Where is your focal point? Put your finger on it! How can you increase its impact on the audience?
- Change its position?
- Change its size?
- Use of colour or contrast?
Target 1- What you will do to improve your focal point
30 mins Task: Individual focus
Act on the individual feedback you've received and the notes made in your diary for the week. Make improvements and develop an aspect of your poster relating to either the layout and/or use of typography.
Target 2- What you will do to develop/improve your use of typography or layout
15 mins Plenary: Group feedback
Share your design with the rest of the group, explaining what you've done for targets 1&2.
