UNIT:45 Charity Poster: Week:2

The aims of this week:
  • To research more examples of graphic image making, including Art Nouveau, Russian Political Posters and Contemporary Photoshop manipulation
  • To respond to research by experimenting with the materials and techniques employed in these examples of graphic image making
  • To record findings in visual and informative A3 sketchbook pages that compares and evaluates the work of others to own examples 

LESSON:1
STARTER:10m
Discuss your reactions to the movement Art Nouveau and show in class exhibition.


MAIN TASK:40m
Continue to respond by finishing the central motifs to your art Nouveau designs.

EXTENSION:
Produce Text to match the boarders and central image.  Using Photoshop to combine if needed.

PLENARY:10m
Discuss progression, where am I where am I going?

LESSON:2

STARTER:10m
Look at the work of Russian political poster and introduction by listening to the following video:


MAIN TASK:40m
Using the posters supplied and discussing the main elements of design, design your own response to the Russian Constructivist Poster, using an A3 page, the theme of 'Childrens Charity' with images from the internet, words and phrases you like and a pallet of no more than three or four colours.

Class display of posters completed.

Discuss the video below and the words and phrases that we know and do not know. 


MAIN TASK:50m
Record incites from the introductory video above and write down to record in sketchbooks in groups.
PLENARY:5m Recap our thoughts and take a short break.

Record incites from the text above and write down to record in sketchbooks in groups. Compare to own work.
PLENARY:10m Recap our thoughts and discuss homework of completing 2 double pages on the two art movements discussed in lesson and responded to.

LESSON:5
STARTER:10m
Discuss points raised in yesterdays lesson in response to the work of RUSSIAN CONSTRUCTIVIST POSTERS and ART NOUVEAU.

 

What are the main contents and asthetics behind the images?

MAIN TASK:40m
Using the inspiration supplied and using your notes from discussing the main elements of design, design your own response to the Russian Constructivist Poster, using an A3 page, the theme of 'Childrens Charity' with images from the internet, words and phrases you like and a pallet of no more than three or four colours.



EXTENSION:
Design a poster in photoshop.  Combining shapes and other elements in the same way you have handmade, then describe the difference in the process and evaluate the effectiveness.

Look at the wok of Andy Potts and Miles Donovan, the combination of Handmade and Digital, to see where we will be progressing.

CONTINUE FINISHING RUSSIAN POSTERS


NEXT WEEK, NEXT WEEK.

MAIN TASK:40m (swap half way through)
Group 1 (20m) Create splatter and Spray paint backgrounds and TAKE PHOTOS for tomorrows lesson.
Group 2 (20m) Photograph each other in a variety of profile shots for each person. Think about the poses and imagery incorporated in homeless posters and take photographs accordingly.

PLENARY:10m Recap our thoughts and discuss tomorrows lesson.

Combine images made yesterday, from Arts and Media drive and place into photoshop documents, using the layer blending tools in Photoshop to combine.

EXTENSION:
Add text and other images to create a homeless poster

Discuss progress and make notes on others work for recording and evaluating techniques and materials used.
