1 Understand how ideas and concepts inform art and design work
2 Know how to generate ideas
3 Be able to generate and refine ideas in response to given briefs
4 Be able to communicate and present ideas and outcomes to different audiences
To be able to do ALL this you will need to explore a RANGE of simple techniques in Photoshop, relating those experiments to your ideas.
LESSON 1

STARTER:
Log onto a MAC laptop and select an image for your start. I have chosen Martin Luther King.
I have deliberately chosen a COLOUR picture and a head and shoulders shot, because I want to express MLK as an ordinary person, like you or me.
TASK 1
Open photoshop and drag your picture into it. Now to go FILTER/ARTISTIC and there is a list of options. Choose the top option, COLORED PENCIL
As you can see the FILTER has changed MLK into a colour pencil drawing. You can also see on the right a list of all the other fantastic filters you can use: CUT OUT, DRY BRUSH, FINE GRAIN....etc
If you click on the filters the image changes: This one is CUT OUT
But actually I like MLK as a pencil drawing as it reminds me of his humanity and creativity. So, I click back onto Coloured Pencil and using the sliders on the right I change the look of the filter, until I am happy.
Once I am happy - save it as a JPEG (File/Save as). An choose another Filter, continue until you have six different filters, using the same image. Each time you save call it by the Filter name! (it helps you remember).
PLENARY / HOMEWORK (for double lesson Thursday)
When you have six, print out and display on a double page in your books under the title 'digital filters' and discuss:
The filter you have used
Why you thought that filter was appropriate for your design
What you have done to use the sliders to change it
Get peer feedback on your designs and get that feedback written on post-its and placed on your page - displayed under PEER FEEDBACK.

LESSON 2
Starter: This lesson you will experiment with layer blending so you'll need to log onto a mac and find at least 2 images of your chosen celebrity. Save the images to your desktop.
TASK 2
Here I've started with the word Google using 3 overlapping fonts. I then duplicated the layers and applied a variety of layer blending options to give a range of effects.
Type the name of your chosen celebrity and complete a series of your own experiments. Print them and annotate them in your sketchbook, making a note of which blending options you used.
LESSON 2
Starter: Feedback about the project so far. Group discussion.
TASK 1
Review of all your experiments so far. Use the question sheet below to help you review your work as evidence for your book.

LESSON 2
Artist connections to your experiments. You must connect your experiments to these influences when annotating your work.
Andy Warhol- Threshold
Julian Opie- Cutout
Andy Potts- Layer blending
Miles Donovan- Layer blending
TASK 1
Here I've taken 2 images and used the layer blending tools to combine them.
Use the images you found at the start of the lesson to experiment with the layer blending tools. Remember to make a note of the options you select so you can annotate your experiments in your sketchbook.

TASK 2
Initial ideas. Sketch out 6 ideas for your own Google doodle idea. What will you need to consider?
- Google font
- Imagery
- Technique
- Composition
- Legibility
HOMEWORK
Complete any outstanding work in your book ready for marking next week. This includes sticking work in, annotating, titles etc. Make your books look beautiful!!!
